In one of the published reports (Icen & Yesilmen, 2008), a case of 1-year old, shorthaired female was described; the cat presented alopecia, papules, pustules, eruptions and crusts on the face, ears and paws as well as interdigital ulceration. The cytological examination revealed numerous neutrophils. The samples for bacterial and fungal cultures were collected and Staphylococcus aureus strains resistant to amoxicillin with clavulanic acid, oxacillin and erythromycin, moderately susceptible to ofloxacin and susceptible to clindamycin, ciprofloxacin, gentamycin, tetracycline, trimethoprim with suphonamides and vancomycin were asolated. The treatment with clindamycin phosphate applied subcutaneously SID at 11 mg/kg BW was initiated. In addition, local therapy was applied with a chlorhexidine shampoo. The treatment was continued for 10 days. The follow-up examination was conducted after 21 days and it showed remission of the clinical symptoms.

The objective of the studies carried out by Yu & Vogelnest team (2012) was to prove that the prevalence of pyoderma in cats might be significantly higher than it had been assumed. The aim of the studies was to better characterize this disease entity in the cat. The study included 52 cats treated in a dermatology clinic and the period of 10 years. The study was retrospective in nature and covered only the cases in which neutrophils and intracellular bacteria were demonstrated by cytological examinations of superficial skin lesions.
