Stopień powikłań po 214 kolejnych zabiegach TTA stosowanych w terapii zerwania więzadła krzyżowego przedniego
Complication rate after 214 consecutive tibial tuberosity advancements as a therapy for cranial cruciate ligament rupture
Corrective osteotomies for the treatment of canine cranial cruciate ligament injury, such as tibial plateau leveling osteotomies (TPLO) and tibial tuberosity advancement (TTA) (1, 2) have become very popular. Objective assessment of the various techniques is difficult, due to the lack of prospective studies and controlled trials. However, the complication rate after a surgical intervention is a good alternative for comparison. The goal of this investigation was to assess the complication rate of a series of TTA procedures and to draw conclusions toward prevention. The hypothesis was that the TTA complication rate would be similar to that of TPLO.
Current reports on the complication rates of TTA and TPLO are available. The major complication rate, defined as the percentage of treatment requiring revision surgery (3), was retrieved from these manuscripts. The first publication from Slocum in 1993 (2), refers to TPLO and cranial tibial wedge osteotomy and reports an 8.4% major complication rate. Other TPLO major complication rates were reported by Stauffer(4) 5.5%, Priddy (5) 4%, Pacchiana (6) 5% and Kloene (7) 13.3%. Most major complications were caused by subsequent meniscal injuries, tibial fractures, infections and patellar luxations.
Retrospective studies have recently been published on the TTA technique with major complication rates reported by Lafaver et al. (3) 12.3%, [...]
