Jak leczę… złamania wewnątrzstawowe. Cz. II

Tibia plateau

This type of fractures occur in young patients and are type III or IV Salter fractures, although its incidence is very low.

Fragments are usually fixed by multiple pins, paying attention to the fibula head or tibia ridge fracture, which sometimes complicate that of the tibia plateau.

Tibia and fibula malleoli

As occurs in styloid processes of radius and ulna, these are avulsion fractures, since they are caused by medial and lateral collateral ligaments.

Fragments are fixed by tension band, although if the collateral ligament is severely damaged and latero-medial instability may persist, it may be preferable to replace the ligament by the triple screw and double nylon band technique.

Tarsus bones

As occurs in fractures of carpus bones, these fractures are rarely seen in breeds different from race greyhounds. Since these are small bones, it is much easier to find luxation between among tarsus bones than the fracture through the bone body.

The most common is the fracture of the tarsus central bone, which is repaired by screws. Sometimes, when the dog falls from certain height, the astragal trochlea is fractured, which is very difficult to repair by pins or screws.
