Ocena skuteczności terapii opartej na protokole wielolekowej chemioterapii podtrzymującej (CHOP-MA) bazującej na mitoksantronie w leczeniu chłoniaka u psów. Cz. I

Materials and methods

Dogs were enrolled prospectively on an intent to treat basis at the Louisiana State University Cancer Treatment Unit and the Veterinary Oncology and Hematology Center between 1998 and 2006. CHOP-MA chemotherapy was the standard of care for canine lymphoma at these institutions during this period regardless of stage, substage or concurrent disease. Breed, age and sex were recorded. Dogs could not have received any other prior or concurrent chemotherapy agents, except prednisone, to be included in this analysis. Dogs that received radiation therapy in addition to the chemotherapy protocol were excluded from the study. Dogs were staged at time of diagnosis based on the World Health Organization (WHO) five-stage criteria for canine lymphoma (13). Staging tests included a complete blood count, chemistry panel (including serum calcium), urinalysis, two view chest and abdominal radiographs, and a bone marrow aspirate. Immunophenotyping was not routinely available during the study period. Lymph node biopsies were performed if cytological evidence of lymphoma was not obtained from diagnostic sites (i.e. liver, bone marrow and mediastinal masses). Dogs classified as having multicentric lymphoma based on the results of these staging tests were included in this study; dogs with atypical lymphomas were excluded. All dogs were treated with the same multidrug chemotherapy protocol as outlined in Table 1.
