Beta-kariofilen a zdrowie jamy ustnej
Streszczenie
Choroby przyzębia są jednym z najczęstszych problemów zdrowotnych u zwierząt towarzyszących, istotnie wpływającym na ogólny stan zdrowia. Beta-kariofilen (BCP), naturalny seskwiterpen i selektywny agonista receptora CB2, wykazuje działanie przeciwbakteryjne, przeciwzapalne oraz immunomodulujące. Celem artykułu było przedstawienie aktualnej wiedzy dotyczącej zastosowania beta-kariofilenu w profilaktyce chorób przyzębia. Omówiono mechanizmy działania beta-kariofilenu, jego skuteczność w redukcji płytki bakteryjnej oraz wyniki badań przeprowadzonych u psów i kotów z użyciem produktów zawierających beta-kariofilen. Uzyskane dane potwierdzają jego potencjał jako skutecznej i bezpiecznej alternatywy dla chlorheksydyny w terapii chorób przyzębia.

Abstract
Periodontal diseases are among the most prevalent health issues in companion animals, significantly affecting overall health status. Beta-caryophyllene (BCP), a natural sesquiterpene and selective CB2 receptor agonist, exhibits antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties. The aim of this article was to present the current knowledge on the application of beta-caryophyllene in the prevention of periodontal diseases. The mechanisms of action of beta-caryophyllene, its effectiveness in reducing bacterial plaque, and the results of studies conducted in dogs and cats using products containing beta-caryophyllene are discussed. The obtained data confirm its potential as an effective and safe alternative to chlorhexidine in the treatment of periodontal diseases.
